Christmas Envelope Quilt

Sharon Stoneberger made this festive envelopes quilt to be a Christmas wall hanging in her home. The quilt itself is perfectly square, though my photography makes it appear otherwise. The pattern for this quilt is Sealed with a Kiss. It's in the Hearts Aplenty book by Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith.

What's really fun about this quilt is that all of the envelopes are 3-dimensional.  Each of them can be opened to hide a little trinket if desired.  I don't think Sharon is planning on stuffing the envelopes, but she did say she will likely add a button closure to each one.

Most of the quilting on this quilt is in the borders.  I stitched in the ditch to secure each of the envelopes, then went to town with the rest of the quilting.  The outer border has pine boughs, holly leaves, and ribbon wreaths in a gold thread.  The inner border has cute little holly leaves and berries.  The sashing and small red border both have ribbons.  Ribbons are one of my favorite designs for sashing, and they are just so fitting for this quilt.

My very favorite part of the quilt is this little cardinal that just happened to be placed right on the point of the envelope.  It looks like he was fussy cut, but it's just a happy accident!  Sometimes those are the best.

I enjoyed watching this quilt come to life as I added the quilting.  It will make a wonderful decoration for many years to come.  I can't wait to see it finished with the binding and buttons!
